From Michael Marleys site:
Insiders report that the “influenza” which suddenly struck IBF middleweight champion King Arthur Abraham on the day of his scheduled title defense against American veteran Raul Marquez is really a case of severe dehydration.
Those same Euro boxing types tell ******************.com that Abaham’s day of the fight pullout and the subsequent postponement of the bout until Nov. 8 is a variation on the old theme, that of a fighter who struggled mightily to make the 160-pound limit but may have damaged himself physically in making the weight.
Instead of forfeiting his title by not making weight, Abraham put his health at risk by barely getting down to 160 pounds. Then, when it was honestly believed the weight loss efforts would put his title and his health at extreme risk if he went on with the fight, King Artie "caught a sudden case of the flu."
“The Marquez camp was totally shocked in one way,” one involved party said. “Leon Margules (promoter for Marquez) had his fighter ready for the second weigh-in, the day of the fight weigh-in required by the IBF, when they were told the fight was off. But the Marquez guys thought something was off kilter when Abraham showed up for the Friday weigh-in looking pale, withdrawn and wearing a heavy bathrobe.
“In other words, the Marquez camp thought King Artie looked like a boxer they just dragged out of the steam or sauna, a boxer who drained himself to make weight.”
So this might be a variation on the theme of Joan Guzman’s inability to make the weigh limit against Nate Campbell but, in this case, Abraham holds the belt and holds all the cards with his promoter doing the event in Germany.
It’s hardly been a secret for a long while that the muscular Armenian slugger is going to move up to super middleweight.
And Marquez’s title chance is delayed if not denied.
