Weak chin with devastating powers and speed make for a very exciting fighter. Even though his competition is impressive at this time of his career, i think we are still unknown to how he will cope with facing World class opponents. I think 2009 will see another step up and hopefully questions will be answered.

At this point we can still hope that Gamboa's chin is more Sugar Ray Robinson than Amir Khan... (i.e. he is dropped with some frequency but is never stopped)
His style is such that he is always going to sacrifice defense in order to open up, he needs a Mayweather Sr. badly.

i think his defense is good. he uses it when he needs to. but when he is on offense he doesnt need to worry about as much because his opponents are covering up.. he has that killer instinct. knows when someone will and wont punch.. chases them and basically scares the **** out of them

im a huge fan and became one on my own before anyone even heard his name. also i dont think ive ever seen him hurt have you? where can i see clips from this recent fight?

I am not buying it anymore. At first I was like Gamboa is the **** but he keeps going down. He gets hit to much, pretty bad chin, and has very little defense. Once the big dogs get at him I think it might be lights out. I could be wrong but it doesnt look good.

Hes amazing but he really has to improve his defense. All the amateurbouts he has are an adavantage on the one hand but it seems they are also a disadvantage on the other cause he has problems to change his style for the pro game.

OK after reading all the comments here I'm going to make my own .Gamboa is a very good, no an excellent fighter but no body can deny there is a lot of amateur from Gamboa's part that can be change ,
you can see that in 3:39, I think that what Gamboa need is a training in how to be a bit more aware of dirty things going on in the ring, his style is unique. why change it? I don't know why there are trying to change him or like others could say correcting him, bull **** , Let's be clear here, Gamboa can loose tomorrow in what ever way, still I will pay to see him fight any time WHY? because there is not one boxer out there more exciting to watch than Gamboa ,so lets no start talking about who like Gamboa and who doesn't , and elbow or a punch , he went down , got up looking for the guy like you can see in 2:11 that is a boxer that you can bet your money on.that you wont loose till the fight is over..no like a lot of fighter that you see that they wait till the 10 count and then the fight is over like you can see in 6:23 , GOD BLESS GAMBOA

yeah that was definitely an elbow that caused him to go down. I dunno about him having a weak chin or being compared to Khan is fair. I've never seen him hurt. I've only seen FLASH knockdowns. Never seen him wobbly or hurt, just quick flash knock downs. Big difference then with khan that looked like he was going to die a few times prior to getting Khanned.

There have been too many "flash" knockdowns for my particular taste, and it underlines a flaw in his defense. He squares up and attacks so aggressively and isn't being defensive when he's doing so.

hes got talent. he just cant get away with keeping his hands that low down for ever...
