you are all missing the point here. They usually do this to give the Champ who may hold more then 1 belt like the WBA and the WBC belts in WW this SUPER title so he has more time to make his madatory deffense in that division. In this case Tony would have had to fight a mandatory and doing this clears his schedule and agenda so he fights maybe Clottey or Williams rather then the WBA madatory opponent. It also give him until 2010 to do so so he can fight Cotto even if he is NOT the WBA mandatory opponent. It is smart business in the eman time they still have someone to call Champ and make title defenses as the WBA WW Champ. Confusing yes at first until you think about it. Wouldn't it suck if Marg was forced to fight some Joe Smoe and then he lost his chance to fight WIlliams or Clottey or Berto or Cotto because he lost? He has been screwed around so long and ducked and he is deserving a BIG MONEY FIGHT not a mandatory opponent and a chance to lose his belt and opportunity to make the money he deserves....Lefty

It sure does! Two champions, with one never even having fought anyone to become champ, mean twice the sanctioning fees for the WBA. The 'Super' champ probably has to pay more as well or something just for having the 'Super' title.

Well Margarito was the IBF champ and never lost it in the ring. Arum being an idiot just made Tony give it up so that Clottey and Judah could fight for it.
Margarito should have been allowed to make the unification fight with Cotto so it's Arum's fault here. As Margarito has already schooled Clottey, I think the WBA still considers him the REAL IBF champ.

Man, you're still missing the point entirely. No one is dis*****g what Marg has done or who he has beaten. It doesn't even matter that it is Marg. The WBA have just given a world championship title belt to a guy that has never even fought for the world championship title belt! They don't give a **** what Marg has done or who he has beat. It means **** all to them. All they care about is how to milk these poor bastards for all they're worth.

Whether or not Clottey is holding a paper title is irrelevant. Marg's 'Super' title is just as much a paper title as he didn't unify with anyone and hasn't fought anyone to become the 'Super' champ. They just decided that someone should become 'Super' champ so they can bring in some other knob that has not fought anyone at all to become the 'normal' world champ.

This is the most pathetic state of affairs. Boxing is so sad at times. It makes me want to laugh with great amusement and break something in frustration at the same time. The blatant obviousness of it all just absolutely stuns and baffles me. Why did they need to do it so quick? Did they have to get in before either guy fights next to get double the sanctioning fees or something typically corrupt and bureaucratically scummy like that? ****ing low life c*nts.
