What happens to Pavlik if he loses?

I was thinking about this fight and this is such a good fight for BHOP to take. If he loses he can pretty much say he was a shell of himself the last couple fights and ride off into the sunset saying he was an all time great. Not sure how this will fly with hardcore fans since we all seen Bernard turn back the clock against Tarver and beat Winky before the Calzaghe/Pavlik matchups. If he wins it's good for obvious reasons. A win over one of the top P4P guys and maybe a rematch with the guy hes been wanting for a long time(no 60/40 split ****) but what about Pavlik?
If Pavlik beats Bernard he is forced to do it in an impressive fashion or atleast have a better showing than Joe Calzaghe did against him. A win is also going to be diminished a little bit by BHOP's age and I am sure that we will even get some haters saying that Calzaghe even ruined BHOP and that the win isn't that great! Also we seen that BHOP still can fight, he was competitive vs Cal so what if Pavlik losses? A loss to BHOP could kill Pavliks career and send him down a bottomless pit. How far would he fall? Who really knows but we could certainly assume that in the general publics eye and the eye of Joe Calzaghe that it would bury Kelly. I think as fans of this great sport and wanting the most competitive big fights we all have to root for Kelly so we get a Kelly V Joe matchup in 09. I am a BHOP fan and really have no liking to Kelly but I do know I want a Pavlik V Calzaghe matchup.

Good post man Kelly would still have his titles but his stock will drop dramatically if he loses. I also agree that he must beat him in more impressive fashion than Calzaghe did. I think people will still say that Calzaghe ruined Hopkins anyway though.

I am a huge fan of both fighters and I am having a hard time choosing who I WANT to win. I agree that as a fan of the sport, we should route for Pavlik. As a fan of B-hop I don't want to see him lose his last two fights.

That is why I don't understand why the Pavlik camp took this fight. Pavlik will not get a lot of props for beating a 44 yr old Hopkins who is 2-3 in his last 5 fights. If he loses his stock will drop dramatically. Pavlik would have got more props in beating Paul Williams.

I'd REALLY like to meet the guy who thinks Joe Calzaghe RUINED Bernard Hopkins.

He was the best of what was available WHO MADE THEMSELVES available. Arum was in talks with PW's promotor who, from what I remember, was just an ******* and wouldn't negotiate ****. Winky, well, Winky seems to feel he is still worth what he used to be worth. AA had a mandatory, etc. etc. So he took the best fight to be made of the guys who were available and achievable as far as purses went. Pav could have EASILY went to an easier target because we all know Hop isn't a sure fight for anyone, but he took it to show the kind of fighter he is. Closing note, as I have said in many other posts, he will win this one hands down and maybe even by a KO depending on how game Hop is. My opinion of course.

Pavlik has a lot more to lose than to win, beating Hopkins more impressively than Calzaghe is the only way Pavlik gains anything in this fight but as the OP said, some people will just say he beat an old man. Losing to Hopkins would definitely be bad for him at this point although he could use the weight as an excuse.

So does JC in fighting RJJ so I'm anxious to see how each fair against there upcoming bouts. Should make or break the possible SUPER match in 09 (Even though I think Pav should unify first with AA)

Definitely, they both have way more to lose than to win, I'm not sure if Calzaghe vs Pavlik would happen even if they both win though.

I've always thought that Hopkins was a terrible fight for Pavlik to take, because chances are he will look bad, win or lose. I think Roy Jones is the only fighter to ever look semi good against Hopkins. Kelly is too young to have his stock go to crap the way Calzaghe's did.
