    New York Times Boxing Coverage...

Rarely do I see Boxing in the NY Times Sports Section. Sometimes it appears under a little, quarter-of-a-page-long column called "other sports," where it is listed after lacrosse, field hockey, horse racing, water polo, poker, cricket, badminton, simon says, pictionary, miniature golf, scrabble and marbles, waaay in the back pages of the sport section mind you. Most times though, it doesn't appear at all.

Today I see a little blip about Boxing and got excited, only to read two ridiculous sentences. (paraphrase) Oscar De La Hoya has decided not to retire after his December showdown with Pacquiao. He feels he still has a few more fights in him at the elite level."

Listen, I don't have any issue with the Golden Boy fighting on- I think he should. I just think that
    A. this was always obvious.
    B. Im sick of Oscar dominating the boxing news
    C. I'm sick of the lack of boxing coverage in the mainstream media and
    D. I'm especially sick of 'B' (Oscar dominating boxing news) considering 'C' (that the boxing coverage is so minimal in the mainstream news).

    Your thoughts?!?

i don't necessarily disagree with you, but there isn't really any other super star in boxing right now. i mean, we didn't even win a SILVER medal at the olympics this year, let alone a gold. who is going to step up and fill his shoes? right now there isn't any other fighter for the mainstream american press to latch on to. we're in a little bit of a lull right now.

i'm sure the times will cover the jones v. calzaghe fight in the days leading up to it.
