Let me take you guys through a few issues from the last couple of days regarding the upcoming fight between WBA SMW champion Mikkel Kessler and Danilo Haussler of Germany.
1: Purserumblings.
Haussler's promoter Sauerland won the pursebid ($1.14 mill) to stage the fight. There have been several rumours in the danish press that the contract wasn't yet signed. It turnes out that Kessler's manager Bettina Palle signed the contract yesterday and returned it to Sauerland. But Palle had edited the contract regarding Kessler's purse so that it was a net purse rather than gross.
Of course Sauerland is discontent and says that according to German rules, Kessler must pay tax (21%) of the purse. Palle on the other hand says that the purse is net which is in accordance with WBA and EBU rules. Mogens Palle today flew to the dominican republic to meet with the executives of the WBA.
Sauerland threatens to withdraw his pursebid if the purse is not gross.
It's no small amount of cash we're talking about. It's around $250K.
2: Trainingmysteries.
Kessler's trainer wrote on his blog something like this: All of you who thinks that Kessler isn't working out is invited to come to my gym and se at sep. 25 at 6 o'clock.
So a public work-out was scheduled. Later the same day it was cancelled for no reason given!
Yesterday however Ross Thompson was flown in from the US so the sparring should be ok now (better late than never). Thompson is around 15 pounds heavier than Kessler.
3: Sparringvid.
Here's a sparringvid and interview from danish tabloid Ekstrabladet:
