Omar Sheika is the classic underachiever in boxing. He could really box, was an excellent amateur out of Paterson, NJ and was a gifted puncher. He also had a rock solid chin, his only shortcoming was conditioning. He always carried a slight paunch which made me wonder if he could have been a much better middleweight.

He had to pull out of a fight 2 years ago with Jaidon Codrington because he was nowhere near the weight limit about a week or two before the fight.

Sheika's two fights with Scott Pemberton were called by Joe Tessitore "A Poor Man's Gatti-Ward." He was the first guy to expose the defensive liabilities of Jeff Lacy and even had him hurt bad in the fight. The last I had heard of him he was competing as a light-heavy.

Pretty good fighter. 2 SMW fights wit Pemberton are pretty good and used to be on ESPN Classic all the time. Abbreviated fight wit Thomas Tate was fun too. Put up a good fight wit pre battered Lacy and was stopped in 5 by Joe C.

he was nothing like a poor man's oscar. i wish he had oscar's chin and durability though......

he had tons of good fights.

i was screaming like crazy for a ko when he was fighting tate and his eyes were closing.

a favorite of mine for a bit years ago.

i think omar's the only reason i know the guys who joe fought at 168......hence why i don't **** on joe's resume too much.
