Omar Sheika is the classic underachiever in boxing. He could really box, was an excellent amateur out of Paterson, NJ and was a gifted puncher. He also had a rock solid chin, his only shortcoming was conditioning. He always carried a slight paunch which made me wonder if he could have been a much better middleweight.
He had to pull out of a fight 2 years ago with Jaidon Codrington because he was nowhere near the weight limit about a week or two before the fight.
Sheika's two fights with Scott Pemberton were called by Joe Tessitore "A Poor Man's Gatti-Ward." He was the first guy to expose the defensive liabilities of Jeff Lacy and even had him hurt bad in the fight. The last I had heard of him he was competing as a light-heavy.
