Now most of you wouldn't know how good SMW is right now, because it has barely any Americans. But with Jermain Taylor moving up, i think it will get the spotlight it deserves.
Here is my rankings:
1 : Mikkel Kessler
2 : Lucian Bute
3 : Jermain Taylor
4 : Anthony Mundine
5 : Jeff Lacy
6 : Carl Froch
7 : Sakio Bika
8 : Librado Andrade
9 : Dennis Inkin
10: Allan Green
11: Jean Pascal
12: Edison Miranda
13: Andre Ward
14: Andre Dirrell
15: Peter Manfredo Junior
Mikkel Kessler : All Class. He doesn't want to stay around forever. So hes looking for the big fights. Miranda isn't a big fight. Hes still the lead runner, but Taylor and Bute are closing in on him.
Lucian Bute : Could be the new Kessler. With the real Kessler on the decline. Bute has power in both hands. Hes the 2nd best in the division to me. And on top of that, his akward stance does make him a nightmare.
Jermain Taylor : Interesting to see how he goes. His entrance at SMW ****es the division even further. Probably more skilled then the rest, but he has several flaws. Such as poor head movement. His power will also be shot, moving up into a heavier division. Still remains a force though.
Anthony Mundine : Will fight at MW only once, when he becomes Sturms mandatory. Before moving up back to SMW. Has been ranked at WBC this month, expect him to get an eliminator for the WBC by the end of next year.
Jeff Lacy : 3 bad performances and all of a sudden hes being over looked. Especially against fighters even more unproven such as Froch and Pascal, who have both looked bad, against worse fighters. Lacy still holds the power to flick off the switch on his opponent. Question is, is he to predictable? Yes i think so.
Froch and Pascal are still unproven. I think Froch will take the win, before loosing the title in his next fight.
Miranda can't achieve anything in this loaded division, its probably best he moves up to LHW for some easier fights.
From the ranks of 7 to 15, you have fighters with moderate skill, some flaws, but very capable of putting on a good show on their night. With a lot of entertainment.
SMW is a loaded division. Its going to be a massive 2009. With the best fighting the best. The top 5 fighters will all fight eachother over the next 12 months. Its going to be great and its going to be fast.
The current list will be totally different to the list we will assemble over the next 12 months.
