Official Thread : Larry Merchants Commentary and Scoring Were Terrible Last Night!

As Larry seems to get older, some obvious personality traits continue to be more evident for normal viewers.

    1. The rubbish he was speaking on Floyd Mayweather was ludicrous. ( I don't want to get into a Mayweather discussion). But there was no need for such a cheap shot. And you wonder why he retired.

    2. His scoring was also rubbish. I gave Mayorga the 1st, 2nd, 9th, 10th, 11th rounds. With another 1 or 2 possibly going Mayorgas way. Yet Larry Merchant, continued to go against the obvious. In what was, one of the easiest fights to score i had seen in a long time.

All he seems to talk about is American fighters aswell. From a broadcasting perspective, Merchant was truely unprofessional last night. He might need to read up on some of his morals and ethics, when being the lead commentator.

    I agree.
Larry Merchant is just mad that he's gonna die before ever getting to see Floyd get KO'd.
You heard how happy he was when he saw Roy get KO'd.
He'd be 10x more happy if he ever got to see that happen to Floyd.

I think Larry Merchant is excellent. Would you rather have Larry's genuinely entertaining improvised remarks or Kellerman's robot style prattle. Larry is the best thing about HBO's coverage IMO.

I think Kellerman is by far the better commentator and scorer.

I don't. On scoring I usually find Larry is much better than Lederman, I'm not sure I've heard too many Kellerman scores. Last night both Lederman and Larry were too generous to Mosley though.

I got a bit frustrated, when Mayorga clearly won the 2nd. Yet Larry gave it to Mosley.

Kellerman? He is the worst commentator on HBO. He always has a dear in the headlights look with his big eyes. He is a little bias towards Golden Boy fighters. I always question him after he said Juan Manuel Marquez was the best fighter in the junior lightweight division at the end of the Pacquio vs Marquez 2 fight replay.

Larry Merchant is better in my view. He has a long and distinguished reputation in the sport. I mostly agree with him. Especially during the Floyd Mayweather fight when for 12 rounds Mayweather just boxed. He said that some people admire watching techincal boxing matches but he doesn't. Just like him, People want to see knockouts and exciting fights not boring hit and run technical matches. Now that is real commentary.

I wondered if people would be happy or mad about Larry's comeback. I've seen mixed reviews about his **** yesterday. I thought he was cool.

Larry rules. The big kids know the truth.
