calzaghe is the reason why,,i dont give a damn if you throw 1000 punches a fight you only land 200,dont percentages count for **** anymore..but joe sure does beat the **** outta the air..the lacy fight is the only time he's looked good to me why..because lacy cant box for ****..he just stood there and got his ass whooped trying to throw wild hooks.dont get me wrong 45-0 and 21 title defenses is hall of fame material..but man he gets credit for hitting the air

In fairness to Joe, some people commend fighters that are ‘busy’ whether they’re hitting/slapping air or touching their opponent, it’s a lot better than two fighters clinching or posturing for 3mins

Also, against most of his opponents Calzaghe lands at a perfectly acceptable rate. The goal is not to hurt his opponent with every single shot, but to keep his opponent occupied and to create openings for when he does want to land something a little more hurtful. Calzaghe's 'slapping flurries' are over emphasised anyway, they only occur when his opponent is not throwing back, which is why there were a lot against Hopkins. The rest of the time Calzaghe boxes very nicely.
