An old Chavez passed the torch to De La Hoya. Mayweather fought a past his prime De La Hoya... the torch was past to him. He ran into retirement with that torch. De La Hoya doesn't need another passing of the torch fight.. he already passed it. -
What exactly is the question?
Why can't Margarito get a fight with DLH? He can't land the fight because DLH doesn't want to fight him. He has options elsewhere to make more money, and against a considerably easier opponent.
DLH was a big payday for Chavez (who was having tax problems) and there was the whole thing with DLH being a Mexican-American and Chavez being a native of Mexico. DLH wanted Chavez, and Chavez wanted DLH. Mayweather was the biggest money fight that DLH could get at the time, and it turned out to be the richest ever. Mayweather wanted DLH, and vice versa.
Now Margarito, like everyone else around his weight range, wants the big fight with DLH, but DLH has other options. He's the king of boxing when it comes to box office appeal, and he chooses whom he wants to fight. He wants Pac.Comment

DLH don't want it wit Tony when he can fight Pac for more $. Only reason this fight got any talk about it at all is cuz some thought DLH might wanna be a man of his word and fight the Cotto-Marg winner. People shoulda known damn well if it was Marg he was gonna say no.Comment
