Gracciano Rocchigiani won the WBC light heavyweight title when he beat Michael Nunn for it in 1998, they fought for the title that Roy Jones had vacated when he stated his intentions to move up to heavyweight to fight Buster Douglas, Jones then got talked out of it and decided to stay at light heavyweight so the WBC decided stripped Rocchigiani of his title and gave it back to Jones. Rocchigiani ended up suing the WBC and got a good settlement I think.Last edited by Silencers; 09-22-2008, 07:53 AM. -

Ricky Hatton was stripped of his IBF title shortly after he won, because he decised to fight Castillo. He should have been permitted at least one voluntary defense!
There are double standards when it comes to the IBF and other organizations.
Floyd Mayweather never really had to defend his WBC title against a mandatory in the two years after he won, yet they stripped Joe Calzaghe a few months after winning his 168 WBC title, because he chose to fight Jones not Froch.Comment

Sumbu Kalambay was stripped of his middleweight title when he decided to fight Michael Nunn.
Nowadays more fighters decide to give up their titles before getting stripped, like Margarito when he fought Cotto, Malignaggi when he fights Hatton.Comment

Malignaggi just stripped his title because because he chose to fight Ricky Hatton instead of Herman Ngoudjo, who he already beat as his first defense.Comment
