Great article. Omar Navarez faces the worse competition for a tilist bar none. Edgar Sosa comes close, but Navarez leads that group. -

this is a great artcile with nothing but plain and basic common sense. fighters like narvaez calzage or hopkins dont deserve to have there name mentioned with the true greats who made these large number of defenses and actually fought the best. these men have fought mostly bums and dont deserve credit.Comment

Hopkins has fought the best. He earned his right to pass Monzon's record. I'm not saying he has a better resume, but at least he fought top contenders.Comment

Hell, I never knew there are times when Ronnie can bring down other flyweight fighters without maintaining that Nonito The Filipino Flash Donaire is too good for other champions to step up to for unification purposes. Good article though.Comment

You're joking, right? Have you checked the title defenses of Erdei, Sturm, etc. Hell, Caballero just defended against a weak-chinned 43-year-old who hadn't fought anyone with a pulse in almost a decade. Before that, he beat up a series of blown-up flyweights and bantamweights. Narvaez has fought some decent Latino and Euro flyweights, and he's often done it overseas (as opposed to flys Wonjongkam, Naito and Sakata, who wouldn't dream of leaving Asia to fight.)
That being said, of course he doesn't belong in the same breath as Monzon, any more than Wonjongkam belongs in the same breath as Pascual Perez or the top flyweights of all time just because he broke the record for flyweight defenses.Comment

Callabero's opposition is pretty bad, but he's unifying the title in his next fight and has beaten quality fighters in Daniel Ponce De Leon and Somsask Sithcawalitch. Erdei's competition is awful, but it's not worse then Navarez's. It comes close like Sosa, but no way. Navarez's best win is Brian Asholmu and then who? Bernard Inom I guess.
Also Daisuke Naito's and Takefumi Sakata's title defenses aren't as bad as Navarez. Of course it's hard to judge since they haven't had as many, but I'll take quality of opposition in their hometown > bums in another person's hometown.Comment

sad thing is narvaez isnt really a great fighter
when u hype this guy up to be like the modern day carlos monzon and then he gets beaten its gonna make argentine boxers look like crap
