People concentrate way too much on losses

youd think you guys would learn after a while, but I dont think you ever will. All I heard before Cotto-Margarito was that Cotto was going to win because he had no losses compared to Margarito's 5...which ended up meaning nothing at all.

guys like Calzaghe and Mayweather are incredibly overrated by some because of their undefeated records too. just because theyre undefeated doesnt mean theyre undefeatable.

and some people will constantly deny fighters the respect they deserve just because they had embarressing losses, no matter how much better they get. like Nate Campbell...despite beating the #1 lightweight and dominating his title elimination fights, some people will ignore these great performances and point at the Robbie Peden fights as if that defined Campbell's whole career.

One day yall need to wake up and realise that theres so much that matters in boxing that losses dont really mean anythign at all. sometimes fighters have bad nights, sometimes another fighter just has their number, sometimes styles make fights and an overall worse fighter can beat overall great fighter.

people complain about someone like Zab Judah getting title shots, but I really dont see why. he comes up short often, yes. but in almost ALL his title fights he gives a very good account of himself, and a win over him still means quite a bit...more than a mandatory challenger that no one has ever heard of. and what would you rather have, Zab getting a title shot with a champ, or him fighting a bum just for a win and the champ fighting a nobody?

So yall need to stop worrying about losses so much, and I wish fights like Diaz vs. Katsidis would happen more often, where two fighters dont care about coming off a loss and instead go straight back to the top to fight high level fighters.

Well it's certainly silly when a guy loses.. and suddeny he is "exposed" Overated" "a hypejob" etc etc..

1 loss does not mean you suck.. nor does it mean you couldn't win "next" time..

Some Boxing fans are a fickle bunch.. and it makes most of them ******s..

I see what you're saying, but at the end of the day success in boxing is measured by the fights you win and lose. It depends on the fight. Margarito for example can be excused his first three losses because he was about 12 at the time, but his losses to Santos and Williams certainly count. Both tend to show that Marg is only really happy when facing a smaller opponent and often doesn't cut it against guys his own size.

I do agree that boxers or their promoters do tend to have an unholy fear of getting that first L, but then again, why face an opponent you think might beat you? The goal is to win, so such fights, literally, don't make sense.

        Also Calzaghe is not overrated.

why face an opponent you think might beat you? because thats boxing! are you going to be a coward and run away from the biggest fights just because you might lose? I knew Tony Thompson was going to get his ass kicked by Wlad, but I was very glad he ended up fighting him all the same...I dont want him to run around fighting bums for the rest of his career.
besides, big fights=big money, win or lose.

and yes, Calzaghe is overrated by some people. and some people underrate him. depends on the person in question.
its the people that think Calzaghe is amazing mostly for his undefeated record who are the idiots, not the ones that look at his wins and skills in the ring.

Most people like fighters that win. Not me. My favorite fighters are journeyman.

They are in a sense losers, just like the average joe on the street is pretty much a loser in many areas of life.

People like to align themselves with winners, but if they were really honest with themselves, they are more like the journeyman then the champ.

Maybe they don't like seeing that in the mirror so become obsessed with guys with zeros on their records.

Yes, I will have to give up placing myself in the shoes of the promoters. I don't condone tough fights being avoided, indeed nothing pisses me off more, but I can see why it happens. Boxing is business and so they do what will make most money. If that means avoiding possible losses then they will. Sad but true.

                that was deep.

Ill tell you someone that totally screwed up the whole win-loss thing. Freddie Pendleton. he was actually a hell of a fighter with lots of very impressive wins and performances, but the guy had tons of losses. all the same, on a good night he would beat the hell out of undefeated guy like Demtrius Hopkins

It's obviously better to have an 0, but once you've suffered a loss, comin back from that earns you a lotta cred. I see why 1 sided losses or brutal KO losses permanently scar a fighters rep, but even some of those are overturnable. Every fighter who has losses don't suck, they've just fought someone who gave em hell.

but the promoters are dumb. no one actually gives a damn about an undefeated nobody. they would much rather see someone like Emmanuel Augustus, who has tons of losses but everyone is familiar with him and he always puts on a show.

I sure as hell dont care about undefeated fighters, and I doubt that many people really give a damn about them either if theyve never heard of them/seen them before.
