Mikkel Kessler-Daniloa Haussler Moved To Oldenburg

My view is simple. Kessler is as credible a SMW boxer as you are likely to find, being as he's #1 in the division, three time champion and a fringe P4P contender. I have to take issue with the idea that he somehow needs to 'earn' a shot at the other top boxers around his division, its a bit silly. -
Taylor hasn't said anything about avoiding stiffer competition - that was his promoter. AFAIK Taylor hasn't uttered one word about Froch. Not being a huge boxing fan himself, he probably doesn't even know who Carl Froch is. Sad, but to be fair his job is to fight his fights, not watch other guys fight.
Also, Jeff Lacy is still a bigger name than Daniloa Haussler, and insult Lacy all you want but a win over him will actually serve to boost Taylor's resume while a win over Haussler doesn't mean **** for Mikkel and he knows it, which is why he's criticizing his own fight. So at least Taylor's management is moving in somewhat the right direction, while Kessler's time is being wasted.Leave a comment:

If the money's there then I'm sure Kessler will be able to get a fight with Pavlik, Taylor, Dawson, etc. But his fight with Calzaghe did less than stellar numbers on American TV, especially for non-PPV. Getting HBO to sign on for the kind of money such a fight would deserve is no guarantee, meaning Kessler may benefit greatly from first impressing American audiences with a dominating performance over a Miranda, Green, Lacy, etc.
That's what I meant by "isn't worth the risk." Kessler shouldn't expect a top fighter who makes millions per contest to take a pay cut to fight him, when Mikkel could take ONE smaller payday against a b-tier fighter to get a buzz going, and then make everyone rich his next time out.
Yeah, and he lost that fight. Sakio Bika fought Calzaghe a few fights ago as well, and nobody's sucking his balls. Also, history is getting rewritten a little bit here. Has Kessler's unstoppable romp through the SMW division been forgotten, or that just two fights ago he faced one of the best and most famous boxers on earth in Joe Calzaghe?Leave a comment:

I like Kessler, but he needs to realise that a having a belt is not that important anymore. Whats important is that he makes the best fights he can, Sartison and Haussler are poor opponents and after this fight he really needs to step up.Leave a comment:

First - Lacy was considered great by the Yanks. Denial isnt a river in Egypt
Second - your lame argument is based on something hypothetical - Kessler's next fight. We're not even close to knowing who it is yet but you're already writing him off.
And BatTheMan is spot on, its not as if any high profile Yanks were willing to step up and tempt Kessler into dropping his strap. Its telling that Kessler is actually criticising his own fight yet Taylor is trying to sell his as an attraction whilst admitting he's avoiding stiffer comp.Leave a comment:

Fine, but people shouldn't complain about Kessler not fighting anyone if potential opponents won't consider him because he 'isn't worth the risk'.There has to be money/tv in it as well for it to be worth the risk, so it's not just up to the fighters. Kessler hasn't done himself any favors by backing out on Miranda and not seeking out known American-based fighters... he will probably have to fight and convincingly beat a B tier guy (again, Miranda would have been perfect) before making his way to the big money guys like Taylor or Pavlik. Otherwise, regardless of whether any top fighter wants to fight him, the tv money won't be there to make it worth their time.

The Miranda fight not happening is obviously a bad move. Wheter it was Kessler's or Miranda's fault is debateable. Several threads have been made about it so I won't repeat here. There has to be money/tv in it as well for it to be worth the risk, so it's not just up to the fighters. Kessler did try to land fight's with several bigname yanks, but noone wanted a piece. Some posters would say they ducked him.Leave a comment:
