            Ali made mistakes.

He was wrong to liken Frazier to a gorilla.

He was wrong to refer to Floyd Patterson as 'an Uncle Tom'. He didn't throw his Olympic gold medal into a river.

Latterly he as apologised for those mistakes, which again demonstrates his generosity. Reduced by the ravages of Parkinson's Disease Ali is unrecognisable from the brilliant young athlete who stirred the imagination of all who saw him fight.

What reason would he have to lie in his autobiography? Why would he need two medals.

              Innocent until proven guilty.

It could be true, it could not.

I'm just saying there's controversy over it.

Why would he do it? - made him more famous, showed even more he stood up for his rights, people are still talking about it nearly 50 years later
