Floyd Mayweather Snr vows to wow the fans
CONVICTED drugs trafficker Floyd Mayweather Senior has vowed to give British fight fans 'the best Ricky Hatton they have ever seen'.
Mayweather Snr, who spent almost four years in prison after being convicted of smuggling ******* into the United States, will take charge of Hatton’s preparations for his make-or-break fight against American Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas on November 22.
The ex-con is convinced Hatton won’t get ****** up when he puts his IBO and Ring Magazine light-welterweight titles on the line.
And in an exclusive interview with Sport of the World Mayweather Snr didn’t pull any punches as he:
Laid into Hatton’s former trainer Billy Graham.
Insisted his son Floyd Mayweather Jnr WOULDN'T have beaten Hatton last December if he had prepared the Hitman.
Revealed how his spell in Michigan’s Federal Penitentiary helped turn him into one of the world’s top trainers.
He said: “If I had trained Ricky to fight my son you would have seen a completely different fight. Ricky was taught nothing for that contest and had no corner.
“I can’t wait to get hold of Ricky just to show the difference a good trainer can make to him. People will see the best Ricky Hatton they have ever seen.”
Since his split with Hatton in July after 11 years, Graham’s methods have been criticised, including his habit of wearing a leather body bag which boxers pound away at until they are ready to drop.
Mayweather Snr, 55, who will join Team Hatton early next month sneered: “What can you learn from hitting a pillow?
“That is what you punch when you’re in a bad mood, not what you hit to prepare for the best fighters. I’ll have two months preparing him and that will be more than enough time to get him ready for Malignaggi and to bust his ass.
“He will pressure Malignaggi but he’ll do it in a smart way.”
Mayweather Snr’s own boxing career suffered in 1979 when he was shot in the left leg by his brother-in-law, Tony Sinclair, despite the fact he was holding up his son — then just a year old — as a human shield.
After being released from prison he quickly guided his son — who retired recently — to the WBC super-featherweight title before an acrimonious split which resulted in them not speaking for seven years.
Of his time behind bars, Mayweather Snr said: “I went to prison for drug crimes and whenever that key locked the cell door I vowed that I would do the right things when I was released.
“I prayed every night when I was incarcerated, asking for the Lord to make my life better.
“I was one of the lucky ones he blessed because I behaved and even got out a year early. He has been touching me and continues to do so.
“If I hadn’t gone to prison, I don’t think life would be as good as it is today. Sometimes you need a shock and prison changed my life.
“I’m a much more considerate and honourable person. Everything happens for a reason and prison turned my life around for the good.”
