Lampley was implying that it was Barrera's night. Hamed got schooled in that fight, he threw in the reference to Allah since Naz was a devout ******.
Is THIS why Lampley hates Foreman?

I havent heard as much from Lampley nor Foreman as most of the American posters on here, however this wasnt an over-reaction from Foreman and he was perfectly correct to do so. Naz was a fighter, he was a well-regarded champion, he was risking it all against another well-respected fighter and he was losing. Lampley's comments were disrespectful towards Naz and his beliefs and they were not necessary in the context of the fight and George was correct to chide him for them. I'll qualify this by saying that I'm not a Foreman fan, nor a Naz fan (I liked him but was happy to see him beat), nor do I dislike Barerra nor Lampley.Comment

I remember he got one right before the Roy Jones - Clinton Woods fight, Foreman said that some day Roy Jones is going to slip and someone else is going to benefit greatly from that.
Aside from that, he hasn't been right too many times behind the commentator's table.
Foreman even admits it and has said that sometimes he gets embarrassed at the things he says when watching the fights he has commentated on HBO.
But it's hilarious to watch. 'This night, the referee will be the most important man in the ring aside from the fighters...'
I've watched fights that Foreman commentated with Howard Cosell in the 70's and he was actually better then.Last edited by TheGreatA; 09-21-2008, 06:22 AM.Comment

the best George Foreman line i heard was in the Gatti v Ward 2 fight where he says
"there is old saying you dont pull a switch blade on an elephant "

That's fairly interesting since Foreman was a true slugger back in the 70s and didn't start learning and/or using much technical skill until the comeback. I'd like to listen to one of them.
Incidentally, does anyone know why Foreman eschewed the stool in the corner during the comeback? I understand why a fighter should remain standing after taking large amounts of punishment or being injured, but where is the benefit in doing it perpetually? I'm presuming it had something to do with age and his muscles/joints.Comment

I guess it's got something to do with him being a little calmer then (behind the commentator's table, not in the ring). That's fairly interesting since Foreman was a true slugger back in the 70s and didn't start learning and/or using much technical skill until the comeback. I'd like to listen to one of them.

He didn't say everything that was on his mind which led to some awkward moments on HBO like when he claimed that James Page was the best welterweight or the comment about the referee being the most important man in the ring which I mentioned earlier.
Here's Foreman commentating on Leonard's fight against Aldama (Olympic final). Aldama was coming off several big KO wins.
Cosell is doing most of the talking.Last edited by TheGreatA; 09-21-2008, 07:13 PM.Comment

I'm thinking it was a tactic used to try and intimidate the other other guy. That's fairly interesting since Foreman was a true slugger back in the 70s and didn't start learning and/or using much technical skill until the comeback. I'd like to listen to one of them.
