Accoding to the seconds hand on my watch, he was down 12 seconds. The ref was slow to start the count.

Yes it was a long count. Tyson should have won by KO.

i really hope ur not serious.

Douglas was clearly aware of the situation, he punches the canvas, and could have easily gotten up 2 seconds sooner.

Anyways, i thought u were talking about a different long count, which is 10x as controversial. i love videos on that fight

Nope not the Dempsey fight, besides to the casual fan if i mentioned Dempsey or Tunney they would respond with "who?" but Tyson is more known.

You are right. However, the referee did count su****iously slow. I think he even stopped counting for a moment and looked behind him for some reason...

I will say this though, had that happened early in the round, Tyson may have stopped Douglass.

It was exactly 9 seconds, watch the video time at the bottom when the ref hits two start counting he gets up at the 9 seconds mark. The ref CANNOT count until Tyson get in the Neutral corner so the count doesn't start as soon as he hits the ground.

Infact the ref started his count at two, the ref is meant to count aloud from One so the fighter is aware of how much time he has to get up so infact he gave Buster less time to get up.

The rule is a ten count, not ten seconds. Obviously a ref shouldn't count too slow or too fast, but Douglas didn't seem seriously hurt and got up when he was supposed to. I thought he timed it a little late though, it's better to time it closer to 7 or 8 instead of at the 9 like Douglas did.

              Ask Rafael Ruelas.

Who knows, maybe Douglas wouldn't have made it if the ref counted faster, but he didn't look seriously hurt to me.

The ref's count for Tyson in rd 10 was about the same as it was for Douglas in rd 8.

The Tunney-Dempsey rematch is another debate. I think it was Tunney himself who said "I would've gotten up regardless, but would I have been able to survive and recover as I did?"

The next video in the sequence is equally interesting. It shows that many ten counts actually last around 14 seconds.

I saw a similar vid about the "14" second 10 count then problem is you cant really criticize refs for doing their job and getting the fighter to a neutral corner even if it gives the fallen fighter extra time.
