Tennessee denies Bowe's license
By Flattop
Former heavyweight champ Rid**** Bowe was turned down last week for a boxing license in the state of Tennessee. The State of Tennessee Boxing and Racing Commission has asked Bowe to have more testing to establish his medical condition and to provide more documentation from his 1998 kidnapping trail during which his defense team stated that Bowe had suffered brain damage that mitigated his actions. Brad Sitton, attorney for Bowe, stated to *********, “The commission is being prudent and cautious. I am presuming the commission is acting in good faith. We are making an administrative appeal.” Both the Nevada and New York Commissions have stated that extensive medical testing would be required of Bowe before he is granted a license.
------------
Bowe kidnapped his estranged wife, Judy Bowe, and their five children in February 1998. Attorney Johnny Cochran claimed Bowe had “diminished responsibility” because of brain damage suffered during his boxing career. Bowe served a 17-month sentence and was released in May 2004. In September, Bowe scored a second round TKO over journeyman Marcus Rhode in his only comeback fight since his nearly eight year absence from the ring.
