September 16, 2008...TWENTY-SEVEN years ago it was Leonard-Hearns 1...a fight that in terms of actual competition, build up, impact, anticipation, etc etc etc... literally blew away fights like Hopkins-Taylor, Hopkins-Calzaghe, Tito-Oscar, PBF-Hatton, PBF-Oscar, etc etc etc...that fight in 1981 had EVERYTHING before, during and after.

That really was an awesome fight. Hearns had his number and was mocking him and then out of nowhere Leonard catches him and everything changed. I wasn't even alive at that point to be around the actual hype and still watching some of those classics I consider them to be in the top 5 best fights I've ever seen. That's about the only part of the eighties I wish I was really cognizant of. That's when boxing was amazing at least to me.

thats when mega boxing bouts lives up to the hype, also hearns vs hagler it lived up to the build up.

Hearns makes almost any fight exciting, examples with duran, hagler, leonard, chuevas etc.
