Here's a follow up to the Oscar de la Hoya ESPN interview. This Oscar De La Hoya Fox Sports Interview took place before the Casamayor vs Marquez Fight. De La Hoya was wearing the same clothes when he had an interview with ESPN, which means that it happened on the same day. This interview probably took place a day or so before Pacquiao went to USA to train.
Randy Sparage: Oscar, how do you balance two careers? Not only are you a promoter, but you are also still fighting? How do you do it?
Oscar de la Hoya: I have to admit, it was difficult when I started promoting about six years ago. I didn't really have a balance in my life. And now that I've had the experience over the years, I've been able to focus on my promotional company. I have competent people who obviously know how to take care of business when I'm not there. But I've been able to manage how to seperate work from business. When I train it's all business.
Randy Sparage: Knowing that you already have an established business, does it make it easier to walk away from the ring?
Oscar de la Hoya: Absolutely. I mean, it makes it that much easier to say: "You know what? I'm not gonna fight again." I don't have to. I'm still gonna be involved in boxing, so I'm not gonna miss it. It's a decision that really has to be thought out. I have to be careful when I'm gonna retire. Why I'm gonna retire, how I'm gonna retire. Obviously with Golden Boy Promotions, its gonna make it that much easier for me.
Randy Sparage: Your next fight is gonna be Manny Pacquiao in December. This should be a tough fight for you. Why'd you decided to take him on this stage of your career?
Oscar de la Hoya: Well, I've always prided myself in fighting the very best. And Manny Pacquiao is the best pound for pound fighter in the world. He's beaten everyone they put in front of him. And I understand, yes, he is an explosive fighter. He is a strong, fast, fighter. He's a lot younger than I am. But I still have that fire. I still have the desire, to be world champion again. The whole world will be watching this fight because everybody is talking about it now. The fact that its gonna be a global event. It really excites me. I'm really pumped up for this fight.
Randy Sparage: Can you tell us your game plan is for the fight?
Oscar de la Hoya: Well, I don't know if I can share it with you. But all I know is its gonna be an explosive fight. Obviously I'm not gonna back down. And we know he's not gonna back down. So it's gonna be an explosive fight while it last. I feel that whoever connects that perfect punch is gonna go down. So the fact that Freddie Roach trained me for my fight with Mayweather Jr. He knows my style just a bit, but we have some surprises for him in store, so its gonna be interesting.
Randy Sparage: Do you have a prediction? How long is it gonna last?
Oscar de la Hoya: Well, I think its gonna be one of those fights, where your gonna see somebody knock out. I mean, obviously, I cannot predict how long its gonna last but my goal, my personal goal, is to knock him out. Yes.
Randy Sparage: Good luck on your fight with Pacquiao
