Ok so I’m just curious to see what everyone on here thinks about this...if you have ever actually trained for a fight you know there are two schools of thought behind training for a fight...most fighters will train at the conventional 3 min on 1 min rest period to mimic a real fight....others (like Pretty ***** Floyd) will "over train" by training to 4-5 minute rounds with a 30-45 sec rest period...the assumption here is that by doing this come fight night it will be much easier and stamina would be there throughout the fight...any thoughts on which is better???
Training methods....to over train or not??

They say your body learns to recover faster if you train 3 minutes and take a 1minute break.
For example train 10 rounds of 3 minutes = 30minutes train
or 6 rounds of 5 minutes train = 30 minutes
First one gets you more suited recovery, second gives you more stamina. But realisticly you could train like:
15 rounds of 3 minutes to 8 rounds of 5minutes
just for example
I think it's hard to prove what's better, maybe a mixture?
For continous stamina fighters already run several miles in the morning.
And for the book, Floyd's stamina was never tested because of his footwork and defense. He never had to throw 800-1200 punches.Last edited by Zerwas1; 09-18-2008, 06:48 PM.Comment

im an amateur boxer and we train 2 mins 30 sec breaksOk so I’m just curious to see what everyone on here thinks about this...if you have ever actually trained for a fight you know there are two schools of thought behind training for a fight...most fighters will train at the conventional 3 min on 1 min rest period to mimic a real fight....others (like Pretty ***** Floyd) will "over train" by training to 4-5 minute rounds with a 30-45 sec rest period...the assumption here is that by doing this come fight night it will be much easier and stamina would be there throughout the fight...any thoughts on which is better???
my trainer says if you train with longer round times you become a slower paced fighter, which will hinder you significantly in the amateur ranksComment
