He may have been faster and threw more punches then, but he used those same tactics as he does now.
Hagler used a lot of similar tactics himself and wasn't a completely clean fighter. Hopkins and Hagler are/were both old school rough fighters. They would both be trying to rough each other up I think.

Hagler would win a decision in a close and frustrating fight

Yes I have, I have pretty much all of his fights on DVD.

        Right..

He didn't use to clinch very often, he didn't "Punch and push" like you suggest he did. He didn't even headbutt as much as people try to say he did, yes he could be free with his head.

Now answer my question, have you seen his earlier fights, or do you just chose to disregard them through your hatred of Hopkins?

EDIT- Actually don't bother. You hate Hopkins and it's obvious, so i'm done with this thread for now.

Hagler was a rough fighter, but he relied mainly on skill and power, while Hopkins has always relied mainly on his trickiness.

I think this is closest to a compliment that you have ever given Grampa Hops. Props to you. Yeah, Hagler definitely had more power than Hopkins but Hopkins was more crafty and tricky. They were/are both excellent counter punchers IMO so I think this fantasy fight would be quite interesting. I think a lot of people mistake Hagler for a straight forward brawler but that isn't true. He had excellent boxing ability.

they hell you talkin bout? Hopkins relied on his skill and ring smarts, not trickness or head butts, etc. The push and clinch you talk of is post 40+ year old hopkins. Prime hopkins wasn't a dirty fighter (unless the rare occasion when his opponent was trying to be dirty).

Regardless, Hagler is the best middleweight of all time, he takes a pretty close decision. No way by KO, hopkins has an iron chin and more importantly, never gets hit flush.

To give Hopkins some more credit here, I do think a prime version of bhop could have beaten the older version of hagler that lost to sugar ray leonard.

Prime Hopkins did very little of what you just said. Hagler would win a 12 round UD anyway. A TKO in a 15 rounds fight.

Yeah, I took trickiness as a good thing, not bad. I wasn't referring to head buts. He is tricky and sneaks punches in where most people can't, that's how I took what Tunney was saying. Maybe I didn't get what he meant.

Maybe I just think Tunney is a douchbag and certified hater, lol.

BTW, I seen a couple people say if it were a 15 round fight, hopkins would get KO'd. Personally I think hopkins is one, or excuse me, WAS one of the few fighters these days that would benefit more from a 15 round fight. For example, I always felt he was on his way to KO Jermain Taylor in the first fight, if only he had a couple more rounds to do so. Hopkins had GREAT stamina, one of the best, and always got better in the late rounds. He never gassed in his entire career, up until calzaghe at 43 years of age (and maybe a bit against Winky too?). I think Hopkins in his prime could definitely last 15 rounds
