Roberto Duran: Pacquiao will win over ODLH

“I am leaning to Pacquiao,” Duran said. “I am leaning to Manny. I like de la Hoya. He has been a great fighter and the people love him. But he has not been very active in recent years.

“Pacquiao has been extremely active. It seems like he is always training and always fighting. It’s not good for an older fighter like Oscar to stay out of the gym so much. I mean, I can understand it but the inactivity could hurt him.

“They are both good fighters. I have not made up my mind but I am leaning toward Pacquiao because he could be sharper. I don’t see any long period of time where Pacquaio has not been in the gym.”

Roberto Duran has credited Flash Elorde as his inspiration for boxing.

Maybe I'm reaching here but the hispanic fight fans have never embraced DLH like they did with JCC or even Vargas so maybe Duran is going against "hollywood" DLH by picking Manny.

I don't think being hispanic has anything to do with it.. One of Duran's idols was pinoy, Flash Elorde... I think it has to do with Pacquiao being the smaller man and defying the odds... He is not underestimating Pacquiao because he himself moved up to face bigger men and did very well. He can relate to pacquiao and does not see size as a disability.

Thomas Hearns the fighter who easily destroyed Duran has this to say

No sale as Hearns waved his left hand in a completely dismissive way. The Hitman is convinced that Pacman will be the Hurt Man after four or five rounds against Oskie.

“No way Pacquiao can win that fight,” Hearns said. “Oscar may carry him for a few rounds but he is way too big and too strong for the smaller man. Oscar will win this fight easy.”

I think Duran forgot that Oscar has fought in the last year than he had in about three or four years before that. He has had three fights all quite recently so the inactivity statement is a bit off.
