Ricky Hatton failed to show up for a press conference on Saturday afternoon to officially announce his November 22nd bout with Paul Malignaggi.
Hatton, who is in Las Vegas for early fight preparation, fell ill on Saturday morning and missed the event, with his lawyer Gareth Williams claiming,
"We don't know what the problem is; we came in last night, had some food, and then he got sick. When he's eating burger, chips and beer, he's fine,"
Williams was also quick to dispel rumours that Hatton was hung over, as Hatton is famous for his out of training diet and drinking habits, regularly ballooning up to 13 stone, from his 10 stone fighting weight.
Lou DiBella, Malignaggi's promoter, was quick to state, "No matter how sick Ricky feels right now; he is going to feel a lot sicker on November 22."
It also emerged that the November 22nd bout may not be for Malignaggi's IBF title as the association does not recognise Hatton as it mandatory champion. But for Maliganaggi, the bout is all about the occasion and he is certain he will rise to it,
"This is the biggest fight of my career, and I live for these opportunities," Malignaggi said. "The best always comes out of me at moments like this. And this moment can't get any bigger."
