So Guzman/Campbell is for WBO/WBA but not IBF? Funny **** going on....6 judges??

IBF Will Not Recognize Guzman-Campbell As Fight For Its Strap!

When Joan Guzman and Nate Campbell signed contracts for their bout on Showtime this Saturday night, they both thought that Campbell would be putting all three of his lightweight belts—WBO, WBA and IBF—on the line.

    Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Now, ******************.com has learned, the ongoing battle between Jon Lewis and the Mississippi State Athletic Commission and the world governing bodies over selection of officials has become even more inflamed.

IBF leader Marian Muhammad has bluntly informed promoter Don King Promotions that this WBO mandatory title bout will not be recognized as an IBF 135-pound title match. This means Guzman can’t win the IBF strap and Cambell can’t lose it.

Lewis has completely barred the three organizations from having any input into selection of the referee and three judges for Guzman-Campbell and also told the WBC to take a hike regarding the Timothy Bradley-Edner Cherry title bout on the same card in Biloxi.

Don Jose Sulaiman’s proactive response is that the WBC will pay all costs and send in three “experienced officials” to judge Bradley-Cherry from ringside seats.

Showtime should have fun explaining why there are six judges for Bradley-Cherry. Maybe there should be two referees also.

An infuriated Paco Valcarcel, president of the WBO, sent a letter to Lewis informing him that the WBO will not permit or sanction any of its title bouts to take place in the state. Valcarcel did not withdraw WBO recognition from Guzman-Campbell.

This situation is a mess and, as usual, it’s the fighters who will suffer.

Mississippi Bossman Jon Lewis: WBC Judges Face Arrest, Jail Time For Ringside Crimes!

Peace in the valley? Or judges being handcuffed at ringside and hauled away to the Biloxi City Jail?

I think the scene at the Beau Rivage Hotel & Casino, which hosts a Don King/Gary Shaw promoted world championship card (Showtime), will fall in somewhere between the two.

I just spoke at length to Jon Lewis, chairman of the Mississippi commission, and he assures ******************.com readers that the rightful winners of the Joan Guzman-Nate Campbell WBO/WBA/IBF lightweight title bout and the Timothy Bradley-Edner Cherry WBC junior welterweight title bout will not be robbed.

“I’ll tell you what,” Lewis said, “you can critique me and my officials after the bouts. But I think everything is going to work out fine. I am 100 percent confident in these officials, including (Larry) Ingle, who might be the best judge around.”

Ingle’s judging record on Boxrec shows a limited resume with his having scored only six pro bouts, none of them for a world championship.

“Everybody has to have a first time,” Lewis said, a bit defensively. “Everybody has to start somewhere. He was my boxing coach and Larry may be a better judge than any of the others.”

Lewis had little to say about an ongoing beef with the WBO and IBF, who were not permitted to have any input as to officials for Guzman-Campbell. Lewis indicated that he is going backchannel and smoothing things out with WBO leader Paco Valcarcel and the IBF chief Marian Muhammad. Lewis admitted he had a communication void in dealing with the IBF as emails to him from the IBF went into his spam folder. Lewis had a lengthy conversation with Ms. Muhammad Wednesday morning.

But Lewis remains smoking hot about the stance of the WBC and Don Jose Sulaiman and told me that law enforcement officials will be watching and recording every move of the three WBC-certified judges who will be sitting in paid ringside seats.

“They should know that it’s a crime to judge a fight in Mississippi unless you are so authorized by the state,” Lewis said. “I will have the attorney general’s office present at ringside to observe Sulaiman’s judges. It’s a crime if they do this and I will not permit them to do it. Under the laws of the United States and of Mississippi, it’s a crime, no doubt.”

When I asked Lewis if he would direct local police to arrest the WBC set of judges and confiscate their pencils and notepads, he said no. But he reiterated that prosecution on criminal charges could follow.

Lewis admitted he and Sulaiman at sworn enemies at this point.

“Under the ABC rules, a state commission ‘may consult’ with the world bodies but we don’t have to on selection of officials,” Lewis said.

“Jose Sulaiman started this whole mess. He wanted to get a vacation for (Nevada veteran judge) Jerry Roth. Jose said he promised Roth a trip but we’re not in business to give people vacations.”

Finally, I asked Lewis if he knew that Roth is one of the world’s most experienced and respected judges.

“I don’t know about all that,” Lewis said. “But Sulaiman is not going to strongarm the Mississippi state commission.”

Gentlemen, can somebody check their ego at their door and do what’s in the best interest of the fighters.

And what's up with the judges and ****? The additional three judges being sent by the WBC can face jail time??? wtf, something fishy going on I just hope that the true winner of this fight gets the decision, I don't want to see any ****ed up controversies! And it would go largely unnoticed too since this fight isn't getting much publicity...I'm a lil worried now.
