    So I attended my FIRST ever boxing event last night! Diaz v. Katsidis

    I'm 27 and a long time boxing fan, and I have to say that was the most fun I've had in a long time. The atmosphere was great, it was just so exciting. A couple of random thoughts;

    -It seems harder to judge a fight while seeing it live rather than if I was at home, I thought the Juarez v. Barrios fight was a lot closer, but after watching it at home Barrios was up by at least 3-4 rounds. They really didn't show the replays at the fight of the low blows like they do if you are watching on TV so I/the fans had to assume they were low blows. The ref was definitely a homer though.

    -Diaz put on a great show, he was accurate and it seemed as if he just got back to the basics. I think Katsidis realized early on that he didn't want to stand and exchange with Diaz so he started boxing A LOT more after about round 4 or 5. Everytime Diaz would get a little flurry Katsidis would grab him and try bullying him around with his shoulders, I think the ref should have taken at least a point as that was going on ALL night long!! When Buffer read the first scorecard my first thought was, "Oh **** no they aren't going to rob him, or are they??" Luckily he got the win, but it was pretty lobsided and I'm not sure what the judges were watching.

    All in all it was a great experience and hopefully there is more big time boxing coming to Houston in the future.

      I love attending boxing events. I wish I had more local ones around my area. But nonetheless they are fun. I think the biggest difference for me is that you can't hear any of the punches landing like you do on TV. It's almost as if your watching a silent bout even though the crowd is wild and loud as hell. But seeing the 2 fighters in the ring throwing bombs and whatnot and not hearing any connect type sound is the biggest difference for me. Of course that's at big events, I'm sure if you got a ringside seat as a smaller event, you would be able to hear a lot more action in the ring.

        I like going to events. Sometimes when they don't have tv screens at the arena, you don't see instant replay.
        I find myself looking up to see a replay of a knockdown, and realize there isn't one.
