Should Khan move UP in weight?

I know the boxers in the light welter division can punch noticeably harder than in the lightweights and with his chin it does not make a good combination, but would a move up benefit Khan?

In my opinion the lightweight division is too stacked at the moment for Khan to make any real impact with his chin and his defence. If he moved up he would be moving into a relatively weak division, and would have a bigger chance of having any world success.

His dramatic KO last night showed that his defence needs vast improvement to be anywhere near a world level fighter. But if he can improve his defence, and this is a big if, I still think he has a great future. Khan is a very skilled boxer, who has a lot of power, and a lot of speed. If he can get the defence and adapt to a new style, he would be a pretty frightening opponent.

I went a bit overboard last night and stated Khan has no future, but that was more over the shock of seeing a guy who I have watched since the olympics, and seen everyone of his professional fights get KO'd. I still think he has a bright future if he can sort out his obvious problems.

You can have a bad chin and a good defence, or you can have a good defence with a bad chin. You can't have both.

I don't know and there's only 1 way to find out if a move up would benefit him.

140 pound weight class is pretty deep my friend. Bradley, Witter, Hatton, Paulie, Holt, Hopkins(Demetrius), there is a lot of cleaning up to do in this division. Bradley is new on the seen, it is hard to say how far he'll go. Though I have been watching him for awhile, I am from So Cal. My dad thinks a lot of him and has seen him fight a lot, he says he is tenacious and fearless. Witter has been around for awhile, a good boxer puncher. Hatton beat the kingpin once upon a time. Paulie and Hopkins are both good boxers. Holt is a more then solid fighter. There is a lot of sorting to do. Khan could get KO'd by any of those boxers. His power would not be exotic at light welterweight. If he could go down in weight that would be best.

the words clutching and straws come to mind. I see your logic, he's a big lightweight and could be struggling to make the weight, hence his chin is affected. However, last night a god dam jab hurt him... a jab!! The guys in trouble whoever he faces at any weight who can take a shot and come back with one themselves

He really needs to work on that defence, hire Mayweather Sr.

Sorry, didn't mean to be flippant.

I think guys like Hatton, Malignaggi, Witter etc would all be a step too far for Khan. On last night's showing even a lot of SFWs would fancy their chances against him.

I don't think that gaining 5 pounds will turn his glass chin into a granite one.

You can have a bad chin and a good defence, or you can have a good defence with a bad chin. You can't have both.
Pernell Whitaker? Floyd Mayweather? They had excellent defence and a good chin.

That said no I don't think he should move up in weight, he seems natural where he is at moving up in weight would equal him getting hit harder.
