    I Recently Broke My Neck

About three months ago, I broke my neck. Literally, I fractured a vertebrae, dislocated a disk, ruptured an artery, and left me with temporary nerve damage in my right arm with a single fall from 14 plus feet. I was not knocked out, but a code blue got me to the hospital quickly. I then had surgery that gave me a bone graft, titanium, and a meaty scar on my neck.

I am supposed to have a full recovery in about 3 more months, so I have high hopes for the rest of my athletic life.

The doctor, of course advised me to not engage in any combat sports like football, boxing, rugby, etc.

I was boxing a decent amount before the injury, and I may want to go back to it. Obviously, I want to weigh to risks seriously, but I'd like some insider advice.

How much damage does the neck take during boxing or MMA?

ummm.......i probably wont consider continuing boxing. The neck takes a decent amount of damage especially if your in there with someone who knows how to punch.

Unless your scheduled or have the potential to make millions of dollars the gain doesnt outweigh the risk...........keep your health brotha

that's horrible, man. im sorry to hear that.

obviously the doctor will tell you not to engage in any contact sports.

you should probably wait longer to heal, and see how you're doing.

maybe get 2nd or 3rd opinions from other doctors (or other kinds of doctors), to see what they say.

after you "feel" fine, maybe try some light sparring (after u get in shape) for a while, and see how that goes?

but the way i see it, it's very risky.

I can't give you insider advice, but I'm pretty damn sure that giving up contact sports is better than being a quadriplegic for the rest of your life. Good luck.

Yeah, I boxed before the injury. Though it had nothing to do with the injury.

                    I would go into Rugby

J/k..I'm pretty sure Roberto Duran and Vinny Pazienza both broke their necks, not 100% sure though.
