Manager/trainer Emanuel Steward and former welterweight titlist Kermit Cintron have parted ways, Steward told ESPN.com. Steward, who worked with Cintron (29-2, 27 KOs) for the past couple of years and guided him to a title, said they split a few weeks ago. "I'm not with Kermit anymore," Steward said. "It was a mutual understanding. It was not any one thing. For the benefit of both of us, we said let's go our separate ways and we parted with a handshake. I wish him good luck. He can always call me for anything." Cintron lost his belt via sixth-round knockout to Antonio Margarito in April. Since then, Cintron also changed promoters, getting released by Main Events and signing with Lou DiBella.

Margarito made Cintron look like a paperweight champion both times Margarito fought him... Both times he was destroyed!!! Cintron is ass compare to Cotto. Cotto went the distance, Cintron struggled to go even 3 rounds against Marg... Lets see Cotto vs Cintron, I bet you Cotto knocks Cintron out in less then 5 rounds. My post is kind of irreverent to the topic... Oh wellComment

Steward is the man, but why did he try to teach Cintron how to roll punches off his shoulders? He's just not that type of fighter, and if he could be sometime in the future, don't implement it right before he fights Margarito. Dropping your left hand is real cute when you're in front of Walter Matthysse and Jesse Feliciano, but let's keep them hands up when you're fighting the same guy who dismantled you and made you cry once already, yknow?Comment

Cintron may not be the greatest fighter, but he'd present problems to a lot of champs. Margarito is just the kryptonite to Cintron. He can't handle relentless power like that. I think Cintron would have a great future, but he clearly doesn't have the tools to fight a guy with power and endless stamina that won't be shaken off by a hydrogen bomb of a right hand counter.Margarito made Cintron look like a paperweight champion both times Margarito fought him... Cotto did not go the distance, he was stopped in the 11th. And I agree with you think Cotto would stop Cintron, but I think Cintron is just one notch below those guys and would trouble absolutely everyone.Margarito made Cintron look like a paperweight champion both times Margarito fought him... With regards to leaving Steward, I remember hearing that Steward advised him not to take a second Margarito fight because he thought it was a very bad fight fir him. He improved under Steward but he's just not built to beat the top rugged fighters.Comment
