We have received news that unbeaten WBA jr lightweight champion Edwin Valero has sent a letter to the WBA informing them that he is giving up the title. It is expected that Valero will rise to the lightweight division and seeing that WBC champion Manny Pacquiao is lined up for a superfight with Oscar De La Hoya, Valero could fight for an interim WBC belt against the winner of the WBC eliminator between Colombian Antonio Pitalua and Mexican Jose Armando Santa Cruz slated for September 20 in Mexico. Before his win over Zavaleta last December, Valero seemed to already be distancing himself from the sanctioning body.
