I love it how everyone assumes Pavlik will make 168 or 170 easy!

Hes been making MW for a long time. And he looks good at that weight.

But just because hes tall doesn't mean hes able to fight at a higher weight. The same thing can be said with Paul Williams.

It all goes around bone density! And if Pavliks bones are light/ or technically speaking not that large.

    He will struggle at 170.

What are you talkin about Pavlik will make SMW or 170 easy! The question is will he be effective at SMW or 170.

170 is definitely a huge advantage for Hopkins. It forces him to come in in great shape and is closer to the weight he's been at for the last couple of years.

Pavlik's power didn't seem as effective even at 166, and I don't see how he's going to come in solid at 170 and still be able to come right back down to 160 and not be weight drained.

Win or lose, Hopkins will make him look bad. I would not have taken the fight, especially when a unification bout with Abraham would be huge.

You'll see him weight in at about 164-166

He will not beef up too much.

I agree with deanrw, I don't think he'll actually weigh in at 170, he'll come in at the weight he feels he's most effective at.

Boxers that start at middleweight especially the taller ones can easily adjust and bring their power up to light heavyweight like guys that start out as a welterweight can easily go to junior middleweight, etc. Pavlik will probably weigh in the 164-168 range anyway.

He'll also not want to push it too high as he knows he has to fight again at 160. He will cut it in between to make his return to 160 easier.

It shouldn't be a problem making 160 again if he does it right, even if he weighs in at 170.

                I agree though.

So the general consensus is Pavlik will come in around 165.

If he does that. Hes at another disadvantage. 5 Pounds is considerable.

I agree.....Floyd weighed in at 150 for the DLH fight(fought at 154), but on fight night he was 148 knowing he would be fighting his future fights at 147......so I think Pavlik will do a similiar move!
