The rumour is that Mundine's management wants him to keep fighting opponents that he can easily beat because the people from Australia will pay to see him fight regardless of the opposition.

I believe the only reason he gave up his title and supposedly went down in weight was so that he would not have to face Kessler again, a fight he would surely lose.

I think you are right.

In Kessler's case, well he was named mandatory for Mundine's WBA 'regular'-title and Mundine vacated rather than facing him. Mundine said that he couldn't win a fight against Kessler. That's really what I don't understand. He fought competitively against Kessler and Kessler was coming of a loss to Calzaghe. If Mundine had fought Kessler and defeated him in more impressive style than Calzaghe, Mundine would be fighting the biggest names by now. So one can question his heart IMO.
