    I think you are right.

    In Kessler's case, well he was named mandatory for Mundine's WBA 'regular'-title and Mundine vacated rather than facing him. Mundine said that he couldn't win a fight against Kessler. That's really what I don't understand. He fought competitively against Kessler and Kessler was coming of a loss to Calzaghe. If Mundine had fought Kessler and defeated him in more impressive style than Calzaghe, Mundine would be fighting the biggest names by now. So one can question his heart IMO.
