he squares himself up to much IMO if you fight more side on its easier to pivot away off the ropes and you give your oponent less of a target area to hit
i think you could see Marg was going to start getting closer as soon as he started stepping to his right and cutting Cotto off and throwing that right hand ,the thing with Cotto is he holds his left hand high which in Basic Boxing you are told to do but the problem with that is it obscures your vision especially from right hands and righ hooks when you are moving to your left thats why if i were a trainer i would encourage fighters to drop their left hand slightly when in that position just so they could see what was coming to give them a better chance of avoiding those kinda shots and to use upper body movement and when they are backed up against the ropes but stay side on and so you can pivot away and keep your right hand up obvioulsy because that is your last line of defence
when you are moving to your left with your left hand down you have to be aware obviously because your oponent will be looking to time you with a right hand over the top of the jab etc but as long as you are aware of this and u dont keep moving to left constantly like Malignaggi and you use feints ,keeping you left down slightly and using good upperbody movement can be an advantage IMO
not ridiculously low though like Haye
