Pick a side (Network Cable or PPV)

these 2 arguments appear so damn much on this board that I wanted to bring both of these subjects up and see a relation.

Network Cable - this is what some say will help get boxing back to the mainstream, that if Arum, or Golden Boy or whomever can start putting higher level fights (maybe even title) on Basic Cable .. be it NBC ABC or CBS, it'll help attract boxing back to the mainstream

PPV- a currently used method for mostly Elite Level fights most known for being used by HBO .. although Top Rank and Showtime have been known to do PPVs

so I dunno about you guys, but with PPV still used pretty frequent, I don't see how boxing will ever get back to basic cable as if Arum or DLH or even Don King saw that PPV was more profitable and would stick to that.

discuss your thoughts on these 2 issues.

Pay per view is only going to get used more often. Look at the Mayweather-Dela hoya fight. Over 2 million buys grossing over 120 million dollars. Everyone is to greedy to pass this up.

I really want more fights to get back on network TV but it probably won't happen, PPV is where the money is.

You know I wonder about that, Boxing is PERFECT for commercials between rounds or even advertising during the bouts....the problem is driving up the ratings to attract the big money advertisers. Its like a chicken/egg situation.

For the networks, it'd be alright. Kind of like what ABC used to do with it's boxing telecasts but the promoters and fighters won't get nearly the amount of money on network TV than fighting on PPV being backed by HBO or even Showtime.

              True and good point.

Who knows maybe Oscar will be the one to start a boxing only channel down the road for a flat subscription fee with all his cash.

well the way I see it is that promoters look to build there fighters up .. then shuffle them to PPV

if PPV stops becoming profitable that stop the need for PPV fights.

until that happens .. Network cable is a bit far fetched.

I've read there have been talks between Showtime and CBS to air some fights there. Hopefully that can happen.
