SAN JUAN — Al campeón mundial supergallo de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB), el puertorriqueño Juan Manuel López, se le hizo difícil conseguir rival para su primera defensa titular, pero finalmente se anunció hoy que se medirá con el canadiense Olivier Lontchi.
El combate se disputará el 4 de octubre en el coliseo José Miguel Agrelot de San Juan en la cartelera denominada “The First Step”.

Como no va a ser dificil conseguirle rival a Juanma si es un animal.
López (22-0, 20 nocauts) se coronó el 7 de junio al noquear al mexicano Daniel Ponce de León en el primer asalto de su combate disputado en Atlantic City, pero conseguir un rival para su primera defensa tomó tiempo.
“La verdad es que nadie de los primeros diez clasificados en mi división quiere pelear conmigo”, dijo López a Prensa Asociada.
El campeón opinó que esos púgiles prefieren buscar rivales más cómodos para luego tener mejores oportunidades contra un campeón que se amolde mejor a sus estilos.
Dijo que sus manejadores intentaron negociar con púgiles clasificados como el mexicano Johnny González, los filipinos Bernabé Concepción y Rey Bautista y con el primer retador, el tailandés Sod Looknongyangtoy, pero no tuvieron éxito.
Lontchi es el clasificado número 12 y su marca es de 16 victorias sin derrotas y seis nocauts.
Antes de enfrentarse al boricua, Lontchi peleará contra el mexicano Eduardo García el viernes en una cartelera en el Casino Rama de Ontario, Canadá.
“Yo soñaba con que la primera defensa de mi título se diera en Puerto Rico, que pudiera pelear ante mi gente y así será el 4 de octubre. Regreso a Puerto Rico ahora como campeón mundial a defender mi título, en mi casa. Me siento bien contento con eso”, expresó el campeón.
López indicó que continúa la etapa fuerte de su entrenamiento. “Ya llevamos 46 asaltos de guanteo con miras a la fecha de octubre”, aseguró.
Se espera que para el próximo año López intente unificar títulos con alguno de los otros tres campeones de las 122 libras (55 kilos): el mexicano Israel Vázquez en el Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, el panameño Celestino Caballero en la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo o el canadiense Steve Molitor en la Federación Internacional de Boxeo.

Lontchi is classified number 12 and its mark is of 16 victories without defeats and six nocauts.
Before facing boricua, Lontchi will fight against Mexican Eduardo Garci'a Friday in a billboard in the Casino Branch of Ontario, Canada.
“I dreamed whereupon the first defense of my title would occur in Puerto Rico, that could fight before my people and thus he will be the 4 of October. Return to Puerto Rico now like world-wide champion to defend my title, in my house. I feel well contented with that”, expressed the champion.
