both fighters are at the same point in their careers: both tito and oscar are diminished physically to a degree, but more so reputation wise (as far as losing big fights recently). neither fighter deserves a shot at a title at this point. why not fight at a catchweight? why not take the opportunity to avenge the most embarrassing, if not controversial loss of de la hoya's career? it's way more credible than fighting a guy who started his career at 106, or taking an undeserved shot at the welterweight crown.
the money is right; these are 2 of the most well known fighters of the last quarter-century. i refuse to believe tito cannot get down to a reasonable weight for a potentially 8-figure paycheck.
hbo can sell a de la hoya vs. trinidad II fight, and no one loses any credibility.

Right now, there is no champ that suited for Hoya's desire for a win/win situation. He will lose to Margarito, lose to Williams and lose to Cotto.
He'll beat Pacquiao but he's too small and beating him would only tarnish his great career.
No one cares about Trinidad. He's been out of fighting shape for some time now. Mayweather would be the most logical choice....but Mayweather won't risk losing and ruining his perfect record.
