Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth, but it still falls under the jurisdiction and sovereignty of the United States

In 1947, the U.S. granted Puerto Ricans the right to ********ically elect their own governor. Luis Muñoz Marín was elected during the 1948 general elections, becoming the first popularly-elected governor of Puerto Rico. In 1950, the Truman Administration allowed for a ********ic referendum in Puerto Rico to determine whether Puerto Ricans desired to draft their own local constitution.[16] A local constitution was approved by a Constitutional Convention on February 6, 1952, ratified by the U.S. Congress, approved by President Truman on July 3 of that year, and proclaimed by Gov. Muñoz Marín on July 25, 1952, the anniversary of the 1898 arrival of U.S. troops. Puerto Rico adopted the name of Estado Libre Asociado (literally translated as "Free Associated State"), officially translated into English as Commonwealth, for its body politic.[17][18]

    Government and politics

Puerto Rico has a ********** form of government, subject to U.S. jurisdiction and sovereignty. Its current powers are all delegated by the United States Congress and lack full protection under the United States Constitution. Puerto Rico's head of state is the President of the United States. The government of Puerto Rico, based on the formal ********** system, is composed of three branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The Executive branch is headed by the Governor, currently Mr. Anibal Acevedo Vila. The Legislative branch consists of a bicameral Legislative Assembly made up of a Senate upper chamber and a House of Representatives lower chamber. The Senate is headed by the President of the Senate, while the House of Representatives is headed by the Speaker of the House. The Judicial branch is headed by the Chief Justice of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court. The legal system is a mix of the civil law and the common law systems. The governor and legislators are elected by popular vote every four years. Members of the Judicial branch are appointed by the governor with the "advice and consent" of the Senate.

i dont understand why margarito keeps, insisting that delahoya,is ducking him.when he is the one who is avoiding, the fighter that already defeated him a year ago paul williams.margarito just wants to cash in on a marquee named fighter ,like delahoya before he gets defeated again while his name still holds some weight, temporarily after the cotto victory.everyone keeps on talking about how strong margarito was against cotto.which i can undertand too a certain degree, because he is naturally a bigger man than cotto, and despite all those advantages, cotto was still whipping margarito through out most of the fight.out boxing him with his superior boxing skills, until margarito got lucky.if cotto would of connected punches to the body, and not had trouble breathing because of his bleeding through the nose.he wouldnt have gotten tired, and wouldve won the fight by a unanamous dicision or possibly knock out.margarito is a good fighter but he is one dimensional, and nothing special.a puerto rican champion fighter hasnt lost to a mexican in 16 years since camacho,in 92 and when one finally does the mexicans go crazy and act like they own the puertoricans.which i think is funny, because the puertorican fighters have been dominating the mexican fighters for a long time.watch out for juanma lopez,he is going to make easy work of israel vazquez one dimensional poor defensive skills.puertoricans are 38-to 21 against mexicans in championship victories

A country?????? LOL, please... Be for REAL!

Yes, Puerto Rico is a commonwealth, but it is NOT a COUNTRY! It is a self-governing unincorporated territory of the United States located in the northeastern Caribbean, east of the Dominican Republic and west of the ****** Islands. The territory is composed of an archipelago that includes the main island of Puerto Rico and a number of smaller islands and keys, the largest of which are Vieques, Culebra, and Mona. The main island of Puerto Rico is the smallest by land area but third largest by population among the four Greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico).

Which means PUERTO RICO IS an ISLAND! Got it?
so a island cant not be a country... just because is small on size?
i born and grew up there... ok , do me a favor go to google type puerto rico pics ( AND BE READY TO BE BLOWN AWAY =O)) and see by yourself how small pr is....
**** **** it australia is a huge island but is not a country..duh

i don't think oscars scared of margarito he just rather not fight margarito because for 1 a margarito fight will not make as much money as a fight with say paquiao and if oscar was to fight margarito and actually win all the mexicans will probably hate de la hoya again

                who is avoiding who

It Is Sad To Know That Margarito Says De La Hoya Ducks Him Or Afraid Of Him..then Why He Push Williams And De La Hoya Fight?why He Did Not Accept To Fight Williams For 4 Million $?if I Am In His Shoes I Will Accept To Fight Williams To Avenge His Loss.i Was One Of The Few Who Predicts That Margarito Will Win The Fight Against Cotto And I Predicts That He Will Lose To Williams Again If Ever They Will Have A Rematch.i Am Sure He Believes In Me And My Prediction That Is Why He Is Pushing De La Hoya To Fight Williams Instead Of Him To Fight Williams.so Who Is Ducking Who?.your Guess Is As Good As Mine!!
