The Fairness of The IBO Being Questioned

Rodney Berman, a local boxing promoter in South Africa, is calling the IBO into question. Berman feels that three of his fighters, Thomas Mashaba, Zolani Marali and Takalani Ndlovu, lost controversially when they fought for IBO titles outside of South Africa. [details]

"Boxers lose controversial decisions when fighting overseas!"

What is the boxing promoter in the article complaining about? Doesn't he know that that's considered normal practice in boxing?

It was a close fight that could've went either way - and did. I'm good friends with one of the judges (Dave Hudson). This was a rare fight where we disagreed - he had 115-112 Beltran I had 114-113 Ndlovu. But we both discussed the fight beforehand and I told him to expect scorecards to be all over the place given their styles.

I don't really have a relationship w/ Steve Weisfeld or Mark Streisand, but will no doubt speak for Hudson; there's no corruption involved.

If we want to speak corruption, let's ask how two fighters who aren't even in the IBO top 100 featherweight rankings (and in fact not even in the Top 10 of thier Junior Featherweight rankings) wind up fighting for their vacant title. Funny how Berman looks the other way on that issue. ****in' crybaby.

And on Ndlovu - again, while I had him barely winning, he didn't do himself any favors by giving away the early rounds and allowing Beltran back into the fight down the stretch. That dude's stamina is terrible - so is his fighting style for that matter, as the fight wasn't even that good.

Ndlovu could have won that fight. I thought he did enough to win but at the same time he didnt do enough to make sure he would win. I thought Mashaba lost fair and square. I think Carbjal threw like 2000 punches.

I gave Dib five rounds, and that was being generous with the close ones. Could just as easily given him three.

Most disgraceful decision of the year thus far.

I don't think that this assertion is borne out by reality.
