    George Chuvalo "Outside the lines"

...I saw his life story this morning on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" and it nearly made me cry. I had no idea the kind of tragedy he had to deal with. He had four boys and one girl and three of the boys died of heroin overdoses. Apparently the oldest got hooked because of some biking injury that had him in constant pain. He then got the younger brothers hooked and they all fell victim. Chuvalo's wife killed herself after the overdose of the second son. George still gives speeches to kids throughout Canada about the evils of doing drugs. His story has got to make those kids think twice.

About a year ago there was an article about it in The Ring. It's really a depressing story. What amazes me about Chuvalo is not only he had to overcome all of this, but he's not even punch drunk after taking Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Patterson, and a lot of others. That guy might have the best chin of all time.

I watched that and was moved as well. Some of the footage of Chuvalo's fights were interesting too. He definitely had a killer instinct in the ring. Did you see the clip of him pounding on that guy who was hanging over the ropes?

...Oh yeah, he's sharp as a tack. I don't know that I would survive what he went through. It's good that he has his daughter and his son to keep him going.
