Unless they do a SERIOUS overhaul of the scoring system, I'm ****ing done watching Olympic boxing.

They need to get rid of the headgear and have judges who actually count body punches and combos.

To win you almost need to stay on the outside and throw flashy thudding shots to even have a chance.
Even that doesn't seem to be enough.

The judging at the world amateur championships in chicago last year was far better, although not without a little controversy.
I felt one of the british guys, murray, won his semi-final fight but his style wasn't conducive to amateur victory.

It doesn't surprise me that an amateur technical delegate was under su****ion.
I doubt they are paying them any kind of money for this, hence they can probably be bought.
Ideally, there would be a panel review, like they do with the pro sports (nfl for example) to determine the judges with the best history/credentials.

The incompetence on the world stage really surprises me, since so many are watching.

As an amateur boxing official I have to say I am ashamed at things like this.

since they changed the scoring system it has changed the sport for american boxers..... also, amatuer boxing has changed because of pro boxing. there is so much money to be made in the pro ranks, boxers don't stay as amatuer as long as they used to when I was coming up in the 80's. i had a 119 fights that spanned a 10 year career, these days fighters don't stay amatuer long enough to gain that international experience. Many fighters that americans face in international competition are participating in their second olympics, americans don't do that, the money in the pro ranks is too seducing...
