This is, in my opinion, a very intriquing fight.Ricky Hatton is an brawler with suspect defense, and Paulie is a super fast slick boxer with no power. Before I start, i should note that Paulie has shaved his head...
Anyways.
Hatton is going to be outboxed to a wide UD imo.
Hatton is an excellent fighter when he uses his jab. He backs fighters up and pounds away with vicious body shots. However when he stops jabbing he is a really average fighter. His hands drop, he gets frustrated, his left hook becomes realy telegraphed ( thus the quick counter left hooks that Mayweather and even lazcano landed), his head movement disappears, his footwork is sloppy ( he squares up and walks straigh in), he pretty much gets sloppy. So when you fight Hatton you need to stop him from jabbing. How have some of his opponents done this? Well there seems to be a couple ways that past hatton opponents have gone about doing this. The faster opponents uses lots of lateral and vertical movement, good head movement, and a fast flicking jab. Mayweather did this in round 9 and it set up the knockout. Another way is something Juan Urango did, which is to go to the body...
Back on topic, Paulie Mallignaggi has the perfect skills to nullify Hattons jab. His has MUCH faster hands, good head movment, extremly fast feet ( he is really quick with his vertical and lateral movement) and his left hook is quick. He also goes to the body pretty nicely, which is a plus in getting rid of Hattons jab.
I see Hatton being tough in the begining, but eventually Mallignaggi's jab and body work is going to get rid of Hattons jab, and is going to set up easy pot shots from about round 4 on. I see Mallinaggi winning about 7-9 rounds and winning a UD.
Now i wanna say that Hatton is a damn fine fighter, and seems to be a really nice guy. I have alot of respect for his toughness and skill and he is one of my favorite fighters. Dont call this hate or any of that ****, because its not. I dont want any of that ****** **** in this thread because it pisses me off.
Thoughts?
