By Jake Donovan - The opening bout of the show may very well be the final call for local middleweight Jonathan Reid. A contestant on Season One of The Contender, Reid’s career has completely nosedived. The latest debacle saw the Lavergne native lose his first ever fight in his home state, as he was stopped in the 4th round by undefeated super middleweight Maxim Vlasov.
Reid was dropped in rounds one and two and was beaten to a bloddy pulp before his corner climbed the ring apron, white towel in tow, forcing referee Clay Huddleston to stop the bout.
The official time was 1:22 of round four.
The bout was never close, though Vlasov (13-0, 5KO) received two warnings for hitting on the break and a two-point deduction for hitting Reid well after the bell to end the second round. The lean Russian looks like a decent prospect, but will have to learn how to control his temper if he wants to advance his career.
With time to kill, Ft. Campbell-based Army Staff Sergeant Samuel Brown (4-3-2, 0KO) saw his four-round heavyweight bout with Marvin Hunt (12-21-1, 5KO) bumped up from the show closer to the second bout of the evening. It resulted in his second straight draw, as he battled the Jackson (TN) journeyman to a 38-38 stalemate.
Off-camera results updated as they happen.
