If you could choose Pacquiao's career path, what would you have him do? Fight Oscar and retire? Move up and fight Hatton Instead? Personally I'd have him chill in the lightweight division.
If I could choose his career path I would have him next fight Soto. People talk **** about Soto, but I think he's a great fighter and I wouldn't consider him less than A class. He lost to Guzman, but people seriously underestimate how amazing Guzman is, and how problematic his style is to Soto's. Soto definitely has what it takes to beat Pacquiao (my money would probably be on pac though), and it'd be a much harder fight than Diaz. Plus, there's some hype because Soto already knocked out the less great Baby Pac (BLOW BLOWWWWWW!!!!!).
After Soto, I'd really like him to fight the winner of the winner of Casamayor-Marquez. That fight will settle a lot of the talk. Casa has been begging for that fight for the past few years, guaranteeing that he has the blueprint how to humiliate him. While at this point I'd say Pac has enough to take out the battle worn master of the ring, I wouldn't doubt Casa's Hopkins-like ability to spoil a younger fighter's game plan. Marquez has a large following of people who strongly believe he won both fights, and has a lot to prove in the 3rd. I think Pac won those fights, but they were very close and the knockdowns were the difference (not in the way I scored the other rounds, but in the fact that every point counted in those wars). Either way, I just think a 3rd fight would be a great fight of athleticism vs skill on the highest level.
After that fight, win or lose I'd like him to prove a lot of fight fans and a few unnamed boxing analysts *cough*Dougie*cough wrong by fighting, and beating Valero. I like Valero, and believe he has a great future. He will most likely get a boxing license in Nevada, but if he doesn't move up to fight Pac for big money soon, he'll end up having to fight fellow Venezuelan Linares, and when that happens I'd hate to be a Valero fan. Linares is a problem, got to see his only fight in the states and those shots caving in Larios' head echoed throughout the Mandalay Bay. Any big champ that Valero fights will be dangerous and can go either way, but personally I feel he won't beat either man and should get his chance against Pac so he can prove his worth before he retires.
After Pac takes out Valero, I'd like him to take on whoever wins Guzman/Campbell. I think if anyone listed can beat Pac, it's probably Guzman. The dude is just too sharp, he can see everything coming, and even though he will get hit (and he will), I don't think it will be with anything of substance. If Pac is smart, he'll come in throwing fast shots with nothing on them and plan to wear down Guzman with constant effective pressure while not wasting energy with heavy shots. Guzman is very durable, he's proved he has a great chin in the past, and he's hard enough to hit as it is, so for Pac to win this fightfan's dream, he will have to bring the right gameplan. After this, if Hatton is even still fighting, I'll gladly watch him go up and fight him. Forget Oscar or anyone other than Hatton at 140, prove your legacy and try to dominate the division that is as deep as any other at this point in time. That's just m humble opinion, let's hear yours.
