Former two-time heavyweight champion John Ruiz (43-7, 29KOs) knows the upcoming fight with Nikolai Valuev (48-1, 34KOs), scheduled for August 30 in Germany, may be his last chance to capture a title. The two square off for the vacant WBA heavyweight title. Ruiz met Valuev for the first time in 2005, in Germany, and lost via close majority decision. A lot of observers, including German press writers, felt Ruiz had done enough to win on the cards. The scores were 116-114, 116-113 and 114-114. [details]

Valuev looked pretty good winning a shutout 120-107 over former champ Sergei Liakhovich in his last fight.
Valuev was consistantly throwing hard accurate double and triple jabs and following it up with combinations, beating up Liakhovich.
It was an impressive performanceComment
