      True it is not a patriotic song but maybe floyd, like most Americans (including me), never listen to the lyrics other than the hook and thought it was a patriotic song. Most people still think it is a patriotic song.

                      I agree.

                      i dont listen to that kind of music and never heard anything really beyond the hook (from TV commercials and such) and i personally thought it was a patriotic song until it was pointed out here.

                      So it is very possible that floyd knew the hook of the song (many of us have heard it at some point in our lives) and thought it would be a good song to use and thought it was pro-america.

                      Im willing to bet thats how it worked out.
