i think Lewis balance was horrible too he did not look steady on his feet at all he was clinging onto the back of Vitali's neck for dear life

Lewis retired because he knew he would of gone on to lose a rematch because he knew he was about to lose the original fight before the cut happened

      plain and simple

Just remember what Lennox Said : look at the state of his face !? what more can i do to it !? how could he fight on in that state!?

        Lennox won end off!
I give Lennox Lewis a lot of respect because he was a champion. I think everyone should do the same with Wladimir and Vitali because they hold the same title.

You contradicted yourself. Earlier in the thread you said that Klitschko did indeed win. Now you're saying that Lewis retired because he was on the threshold of the defeat.

So how does someone "win", then go on to retire because "he knew he was about to lose the original fight before the cut happened." I thought he had lost the fight, atleast in your eyes?

If he had lost, his black mark would be not avenging the loss. In that instance, why would Vitali seek a rematch with someone he already "beat?"

He was clearly not in shape.
And Steward would never say Lennox was NOT in shape before the fight, he is trying to hype the fight.

I do remember the fight. Vitali had a hot second round and wobbled Lewis twice. Then Lewis came back in the third round and cut him. Vitali hung in there valiantly but the cut was made progressively worse by more punches. The momentum was swinging towards Lewis down the stretch, including a huge uppercut in the sixth round.

The ringside doctor waives off the fight declaring that Klitschko was unable to continue. He was later quoting as saying that Klitschko had to turn his entire head in order to read the fingers. He defended his decision by saying that permanent damage could have occurred if the fight continued because of the vital nerves that control eyesight were in the immediate area of the gash.

Klitschko is redeemed in a moral victory for his retirement against late-replacement Chris Byrd that led many to label him a quitter. The record books read a TKO6 win for Lennox Lewis.

i think the reason most people are upset at lewis is because he didnt do the rematch. he did win the fight and did what he needed to do in the last round to win but it would have been nice to have seen a rematch. but with the career he had it was his choice, he knew vitali would have been a tough fight again and he obviously didnt want it and i don't fault him for it at that stage in his career.
