  • Good Riddance To De La Hoya-Pacquiao Not Moving

By Brent Matteo Alderson - I was ecstatic when I heard that negotiations for a Oscar De La Hoya-Manny Pacquiao fight had stalled because it wouldn’t have been much of a fight. Come on, Pacquiao is a hell of a fighter, probably the best pound-for-pound in the world, but this isn’t pound for pound, this is Oscar’s pounds versus the Pacman’s. [details]

Good riddance is right. Let him have Mora or whoever. I wouldn't mind if he just retired without 1 more fight if it ain't gonna be a challenge.

I don't know if the writer considered the important parts of such a matchup. Important for Manny, that is. Manny has been KO'd a couple of times, admittedly long ago, but he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer at the best of times-the reason that people can gain ascendancy over him quite easily, and talk him into silly things.

The writer makes it sound as if they would be going for a stroll in the park, and the only important thibng is the amount of money he'd make. He also says that a loss wouldn't damage Manny.

I think it would, and, for me, this is the crux of the whole deal. Oscar does not gas after 6 rounds, unless he's out of shape. Against Mayweather, the fight before Forbes, he was "good until the very last drop" as the Nescafe ad used to say, and specifically spoke about it-with pride.

As for Forbes, he's a far better boxer than Manny and posed problems for him that a smaller, less skilled Manny wouldn't, with his straight in and out tactics and off-balance forays into the unknown.

What's going to happen to Manny if he's at the receiving end of a couple of Oscar's patented left hooks?? He's going to go down; if he doesn't, it'll leave him standing there to soak up more punishment. HEAVY punishment. Oscar is a pretty good puncher, and he'd have a comparative midget in front of him with Manny.

So, although Manny may get 10-15 mill [of which the Roach gets 1 to 1.5 mill] which, after expenses, taxes and payouts, it won't be nearly the wonderful amount first suggested. And he may be left with a PERMANENT "ringing in the ears"............
