Actually according to sergio daiz (Rito's manager) the williams fight pays better than the cotto fight and Rito HAD to sign a 5 fight deal with Top rank if he choose to fight cotto.

At the time Rito's manager didnt think rito was promoted in the right way and they didnt want to tie him down to a long contract at the time, So Rito didnt actually have much choice but to fight Williams and to kill any doubt in him mind williams promoter (Gossen) paid Rito an extra 400,000 dollars.
